FIRST ENGLISH WORDS
Luis Augusto Herrera, 37, is amazed as daughter Paola, 6, pronounces her first
English words she has learned in school.  The Herreras escaped Colombia, with
just their suitcases.  They sit on a couch that was lent to them.  He works from 9
pm to 5am everyday with no days off and no overtime pay.  He’s a man that has
taken on the Colombian drug cartel when he was Regional Director of DAS,
Colombia’s equivalent to the DEA, is an attorney, and had political aspirations in
his native Colombia.  Herrera fled in February (2002) after averting his
assassination by drug traffickers.  He managed to find a job without a work permit
and has introduced his paperwork for political asylum that has been approved.
His wife, Sonia is also an attorney.
